COLUMBIA, S.C. - Abu Garcia pro David Dudley captured his second FLW Angler of the Year this past weekend at Pickwick Lake, Ala. The Lynchburg, Va., native ousted fellow pro Brent Ehrler by a mere 15 points, claiming the title and a $100,000 check.
Dudley’s first AOY title came in 2008, where he edged Ehrler by a single point. With the title, Dudley joins fellow Abu Garcia pros Clark Wendlandt (2009, 2000, 1997) and Jay Yelas (2007, 2002) as the only FLW anglers to win multiple Walmart FLW Tour Angler of the Year titles. Dudley also received $100,000 for the title.
“This win feels great,” Dudley said. “On the FLW you have to be a model of consistency if you want to come out on top. I was fortunate to bounce back strong after a shaky Kentucky event, but that is what makes the AOY title so important for me. I proved that one poor performance doesn’t spell the end to a perfect story.”
Dudley has remained a dominant figure on the FLW Tour. To date in 2011, Dudley has notched four top-15 finishes, two of which are top-10 finishes. He has amassed five wins and 31 top-10 finishes in FLW Outdoors competition and won $2.6 million during his 16-year career. Dudley also is the youngest angler in the sport to surpass both the $1 million and $2 million marks.
