Duckett Earns Fourth Tour Level Event Win

Alabama Native Claims Bassmaster Classic Berth and $100K

COLUMBIA, S.C. – This was the year for Abu Garcia® pro Boyd Duckett to return after a less-than-perfect 2011 season. After missing the 2012 Bassmaster Classic, Duckett vowed 2012 would be his comeback year – consider the comeback complete.

Duckett earned his fourth tour-level victory this past weekend. The Demopolis, Ala., native weighed in over 62-pounds of fish during the four-day event at Oneida Lake. The former Classic champion cashed a $100,000 check for his winning effort, edging fellow pro Randy Howell by a mere 6 ounces.

“I’ve come a long way since the 2011 season,” said Duckett. “I’m not exactly sure what my issue was last year, but I knew I needed to right the ship. I’ve done pretty good all season, but needed to lock down my Classic qualification. One of the only ways I could do it was to cap off the season with a win on Oneida. Luckily, I found a great pocket of fish while sitting on the shore with Kelly Jordon that held the fish I needed.”

Duckett downsized his tackle to get more big bites. His primary baits included the Berkley® PowerBait® 3-inch Chigger Craw and the PowerBait 4-inch Hollow Belly.

“I went down to 10-pound Berkley Trilene® 100% Fluorocarbon and a small 3-inch PowerBait Crazy Legs Chigger Craw,” said Duckett. “The power in the technique came with my Abu Garcia Revo® Premier casting reel. I flipped that pocket of fish and needed to get them out as quickly as possible. This is where the Revo 7:1.1 gear ratio came in big for me. I was able to run my bait down to where they were and get them out quick.”

Duckett wasn’t the only Abu Garcia pro enjoying the Oneida Lake; Scott Rook (3rd), Ott DeFoe (5th), Jason Quinn (8th) and Fletcher Shryock finished eleventh.

The next Elite Series event is set for September 20-23 and launches out of Decatur, Ill. The top 8 in Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year Standings qualified this past weekend. An addition four anglers will make it in by fan votes. Voting will begin Tuesday, August 28th on
