COLUMBIA, S.C. –Brandon Palaniuk, a B.A.S.S. Elite Series sophomore and Abu Garcia pro team member, earned his first Elite Series win this past weekend on Bull Shoals Lake. For his efforts, the Rathdrum, Id., native claimed the $100,000 top prize and an entry into next years Bassmaster Classic.
Palaniuk overcame a nasty treble hook injury on day 2 that required a visit to the local emergency room. Luckily, Palaniuk had his limit that day and was able to finish the event. His final four-day total was 78 pounds, 6 ounces, enough to best the field by over 10 pounds.
“I was using a 7’6” Medium Heavy Veritas™ Winch™ rod and Revo® Winch™ reel spooled up with 10’lb Berkley® Trilene® 100% Fluorocarbo throwing crankbaits” said, Palaniuk. “It was the perfect set up. I could make a mile long cast and it had plenty of power to catch the four and five pounders that were down 22 feet but you still had that give you need when fishing crankbaits.”
Brandon fished an area known as Sugar Loaf, which paid off in the end for the young Elite Series pro.
Abu Garcia pros that also made headlines, earning them a top twelve finish were: Britt Meyers (2nd Place), Bobby Lane (7th Place), Scott Rook (8th Place), Jason Quinn (10th Place).
The next Bassmaster Elite Series event is scheduled to take place May 3-6 on Tennessee’s Douglas Lake.
